Perennial grass to 2m tall. Leaves bases sheathing stem, ligule a papery scale. Rachis terminal, infloresence panicled but appearing digitate. Spikelets consisting of pedicelled staminate floret subtended by sessile perfect floret. Lemma densly bearded. Lemma awned, awn to 1.5 cm long.
