Description
bobbejaantjie (Babiana geniculata)
Not in the Biedouw Valley, but we wondered whether this was the rare B. geniculata rather than the common B. ecklonii, because the plants were very low on the ground, a deeper colour than B. ecklonii and the leaves were not 'softly hairy'. Plants low, up to 30cm, stiff folded leaves, trossie of about 6 flowers

"Have you tried the key??

(more keys at http://www.ispot.org.za/Quick_Keys)
::unfortunately you dont have a side view showing the petal tube and the bracts, so some useful characters are missing (wont mention ovary hairiness, which is a key feature, but one that is impossible to see in photos).
Babiana geniculata
Tepal tube long and thin, kinked at right angles at apex, anthers spreading, style dividing below anthers, with very long branches expanded at tips.
Lewis and Barker collected it between the Brandewyn and Doornbos Rivers 15-20km S of Doornbosch - which would be about 5km E of here (although why did they just not specify around Engelsmansegraf??)"
