Several large, wandering male tarantulas were seen on Lanfair Rd. this night. While no specimens were collected, according to Prentice's (1997) "Theraphosidae of the Mojave Desert West and North of the Colorado River (Araneae, Mygalomorphae, Theraphosidae)" there is only a single species of large tarantula in the region, a conclusion supported in unpublished research by tarantula expert Chris Hamilton.
