Large frogs. Our herpetologist had them identified down to species, but I neglected to make note of it. These three were caught by our Indonesian guides; here, they each have a black plastic strap tied to a leg. It seemed that the guides were intending to make these frogs into food, but some language difficulties and the desire of a bunch of young, nature-happy westerners to free the charismatic megafauna led to us all untying the frogs and letting them go in the river.
The herpetologist looked out for these in particular during our nighttime frog hunts, usually by how their eyes would glow in the torchlight. When he thought he found one, he would have everyone turn off or direct away their lights, and jump in the water on it to catch it, in a most silly manner. He was not successful on the occasions I went on the frog hunts, but he was a few other times.
