Six plants of Costus vinosus were found over a 2 km stretch along the Rio Boqueron. None were in flower nor did any have older inflorescences as in the other locality. No small seedlings were found, indicating these plants may be sterile and propagating only asexually. The species remains critically endangered but now has been verified not to be extinct in the wild as feared.
