Description

There were huge masses of Laminaria bongardiana or Split Kelp flowing with the current in the "cut" between the mainland and Indian Island. You could see the split easily on this dark brown kelp that has huge blades, about a foot wide and three or four feet long. There appears to be some confusion around the proper scientific name of Split Kelp, so it's lucky it has such an appropriate common name.
