Welcome NAMA Shenandoah Foray Participants!

Welcome NAMA Shenandoah Foray participants. We are so glad that you have taken the time to join us in documenting event discoveries in iNaturalist. We welcome your mycological discoveries, as well as any other interesting natural history discoveries you make while in the Park.

iNaturalist and the NAMA Shenandoah Foray:

The NAMA Shenandoah Foray is collaborating with Shenandoah National Park to support the NPS Centennial BioBlitz Project. One aspect of this collaboration is an effort to document species observations in iNaturalist. iNaturalist allows you to document the appearance, location, and identity (if known) of natural history discoveries. It does not require that you have cell phone service to operate, and only uploads data at your command.

The Park’s goal is to log as many mycological observations as possible into iNaturalist during the Shenandoah Foray. This effort is designed to take place in conjunction with documentation being done for Mushroom Observer, and does not replace this program.

Shenandoah National Park (SNP) encourages all participants with a smartphone or tablet to download the free iNaturalist application prior to attending the Shenandoah Foray. This will allow participants to independently document their finds in iNaturalist during the event. In an effort to assist the documentation of species in iNaturalist, two park staff members will attend each foray within the Park. Each staff member will have a phone or tablet with iNaturalist, and will be available to assist participants with adding their observations as desired.

A special project has been set-up in iNaturalist to support the NAMA Shenandoah Foray. The project is called “Shenandoah: Mycological Foray - 2016 National Park Service BioBlitz”. The project will become active on September 8, 2016. Joining this project will give you access to the full species lists for Park fungi and lichens, as well as all other participant's uploaded observations. Given that you're reading this, though, you must already know that! Thanks again for joining us.
