The Plant List http://www.theplantlist.org/tpl1.1/record/kew-2896549 suggests Lophocereus marginatus is a synonym of Marginatocereus marginatus

Yes, I think we can accept M. marginatus as the active name. I don't have enough evidence to do not. Regards and Best wishes.
