jtklein Subfamily Sedoideae

APG doesn't include that subfamily. The used name for this group is Sempervivoideae there and more general: http://www.mobot.org/MOBOT/Research/APweb/orders/saxifragalesweb.htm#Crassulaceae

Sedoideae moved to Sempervivoideae

Comments

Hi @jtklein, you're right! A few days ago I saw that someone had created this subfamily, so I decided to include the corresponding genera. But the right name is Sempervivoideae, as Sedoideae (excluding Sempervivum, Aeonium et al.) is paraphyletic.

Tagging @mangum, who uploaded this taxon.

Hi! I took a look at this taxon a few days ago, but I did not create it / upload it. It looks like it was uploaded by eol.

This is a pretty big change, so lets pull in a few more experts: @nachotorres @jrebman @najera_tutor @grnleaf @gaertnerneuwirth @alexiz @c_meling @aztekium_tutor @ajwright @tiggrx @margeu @catchang @kueda

FWIW, POWO doesn't support Sedoideae or Sempervivoideae, and personally this just seems like more subcategorization without much utility.

i couldn't open the link, i would like to see some references first and then also actualize all Crassulaceae

and this has to be done as a taxon framework because the change could affect several taxa

Right, I'll pass this job along.

I have decided to help in curating the Crassulaceae on iNaturalist.
What can I do to help here?
@mangum, why do you say it is a big change? Change of one name, moving three genera. Seems managable.
@najera_tutor what actualizations do you have in mind for the Crassulaceae, how can I help you there.

POWO doesn't include any subfamilies, subgenera, or sections, but it's been super helpful for groups like Asteraceae and Euphorbia.

list of Crassulaceae genera and their subfamilies:
http://www.mobot.org/MOBOT/Research/APweb/genera/crassulaceaegen.html

@jtklein, I created Sempervivoideae. To move a taxon from one subfamily to the other:
-head to the taxon page
-click Curation>Edit Taxon
-change the taxon parent name
-scroll to bottom, save

Yeah, I also agree that these subdivisions are actually helpful although they may appear futile. For example, when a taxon gets IDs from different genera —or else, when a species has been moved from one genus to another and there are IDs on (old) genus level and (new) species level—, the tag doesn't go back to family but to tribe or subfamily. You can then look for old observations within a group more effectively. Same when giving an ID for observations within a small group without knowing the exact name.
Anyway, I just defined Sedoideae as a synonym of Sempervivoideae, and moved the three genera that @jtklein mentioned there.
