Are there easy/common ways to know when it definitely is or definitely is not Ceratodon purpureus?

A majority of moss observations are green blurs so it's really hard to ID them as anything other than "Bryopsida". Ceratodon is acrocarpous, so any branching mosses can be ruled out as not Ceratodon. Other than that, it's difficult.

I don't think there is an easy way to confirm which of these are Ceratodon purpureus. The most practical way to clean this up would be to weed out the obviously wrong ones. Polytrichaceae is an easy family to recognize and I saw lots of them mislabled as Ceratodon. Funaria is another one that I see gets mixed in, but it is a bit more difficult to tell apart than Polytrichaceae. Many other species in here too, though mostly ones that I can't recognize at a glance and only a very few of which have enough details evident to attempt keying them out.

Since there is no possibility for curators to become active here, I close this flag. I have already corrected or edited the observations for Ceratodon in Germany, it should be a little better now.
