Yes here's the deviation https://www.inaturalist.org/taxon_framework_relationships/15630 any objection to resolving it (ie bringing iNat in line with RD)?
@loarie can we get this one committed, please?
waiting on:
inactive output taxon for C. hallii (I just made one https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/1218622-Crocodylus-hallii)
draft taxon split (I just made one https://www.inaturalist.org/taxon_changes/89804)
update to atlas for https://www.inaturalist.org/atlases/2034 and new atlas for https://www.inaturalist.org/atlases/new?taxon_id=1218622 (can you make these?)
Then it will be ready to commit
This is still waiting on distribution information. For me what's super helpful is for someone to take a screenshot of the Crocodylus novaeguineae sensu lato range (https://www.iucnredlist.org/species/46591/3010398) and draw a line through it, label the sensu stricto species and share it as in https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/2021-clements-update-and-continual-concerns/25875/12?u=loarie
If someone can do that - I can get this split

Here's the description
You should use the mountain range as the separator. In my opinion, C. halli to the south; C. novaeguineae to the north. As for the bird head, i think you should leave it as the later.
I've made the atlas based on my opinion
OK split https://www.inaturalist.org/taxon_changes/89804 thanks for your help with this
Animals south of the New Guinea central cordillera are now C. halli
http://reptile-database.reptarium.cz/species?genus=Crocodylus&species=halli
The only observation of C. novaeguineae in iNat at this time will become C. halli
