I'm taking a break (or trying to) from curation-- one thing I did do was inactivate the output taxon for now, for the reasons laid out here: https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/plans-for-2019-clements-bird-taxonomy-updates/5397/37
Raphanus sativus is our most 'observose' taxon not in POWO (with ~8k obs) so getting in line with POWO would be
quite disruptive. I'm not opposed to getting in line with POWO but lets make sure we hash out the details - e.g. are folks ok with following POWO by getting rid of the ssp under R. sativus?
Here's a deviation in the meantime

Do you have thoughts on moving this into Raphanus raphanistrum subsp. sativus so that we would be matching POWO? I'd like to make this change if there are no objections
The change above would call for the deletion of this (interim) deviation: https://www.inaturalist.org/taxon_framework_relationships/244707
Any chance this merge can be completed?
iNat currently has 4 Raphanus species listed, when POWO only recognizes R raphanistrum.
There are also a bunch of subspecies/varieties that overlap - aka Raphanus bipinnatus for Daikon Radishes (I'm not even sure where this name is coming from, since it's nowhere in powo even as a synonym, and not in GBIF) as well as Raphanus sativus var. longipinnatus (Daikon Radish).
We also have Raphanus sativus var. raphanistroides as well as Raphanus raphanistrum ssp. raphanistrum, which is confusing to say the least.
I would love to see this entire mess get cleaned up!
I have drafted a merge of this species, its subspecies, and another "taxon" into Raphanus raphanistrum subsp. sativus per POWO (using info from other databases as supporting evidence), but since I am not a botanist exactly (mycologist) and this swap concerns almost 7000 observations, I thought I should check with others. The online databases I am aware of seem to agree more or less that these should be synonymized into either the subspecies or the species. Merge is here: https://www.inaturalist.org/taxon_changes/68890.
