iNat is inline with Southeastern Flora here but not POWO should we continue deviating? https://www.inaturalist.org/taxon_framework_relationships/214565

Xyris curtissii Malme
First published in Ark. Bot. 13(8): 24 (1913)
This name is a synonym of Xyris difformis var. curtissii

Same for FNA : http://floranorthamerica.org/Xyris_difformis_var._curtissii

Is there any reason to deviate from both POWO and FNA ?

yes, both are incorrect.

Yes, continue to deviate on Xyris curtissii. Edwin Bridges' RAD-Seq phylogeny of N American Xyris supports the recognition of X. curtissii at the rank of species.
