kai_schablewski | Genus Rhaponticum |
The genus Rhaponticum Vaill. has not been validly published, therefore the name Leuzea has priority. The name Rhaponticum Ludwig is a synonym of Centaurea L. |

the thing is that Rhaponticum Ludw. has been conserved with the type Centaurea rhapontica L., which is Leuzea rhapontica = Rhaponticum scariosum subsp. rhaponticum
see e.g. https://npgsweb.ars-grin.gov/gringlobal/taxon/taxonomygenus?id=16276
This makes Rhaponticum the name to be used instead of Leuzea, and the case is treated this way at GRIN, Euro+Med & World Plants

I personally do not care which one is correct, and do not have appropriate knowledge to wheigh in (although the second person in your link is stating that Rhaponticum is a conserved name, so it should probably be used).
what is very bad is that BOTH synonyms are in use as accepted species on this site.
The curators should decide which authority to follow and merge the appropriate taxa.
It is very confusing (and defeating the purpose of scientific names) having the same plant represented by two names, it gives the appearance there are two species where it is just one.
