All newly described species from the following publication are still missing: https://www.senckenberg.de/de/wissenschaft/publikationen/wissenschaftliche-zeitschriften/vertebrate-zoology/archiv/vz-70-1-03/
(merged in this duplicate flag https://www.inaturalist.org/flags/476630)
@cvanderson can you advise here? IUCN has a range for Calumma nasutum sensu lato
https://www.iucnredlist.org/species/172861/6931331
and hasn't yet split. Since the paper
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/339029391_Untangling_the_trees_Revision_of_the_Calumma_nasutum_complex_Squamata_Chamaeleonidae
doesn't have very good distribution data, making this split will be hard unless someone has better info on the respective ranges
Hi Scott - The updated IUCN Red List assessments for these new species and the reassessments for C. nasutum and C. fallax are at least a year or more out from being done and posted. These are a few of quite a few we are hoping to get done but there is also a larger Madagascar assessment workshop to update all the 2011 Madagascar assessments, and in the interest of making sure all the relevant experts are able to provide updated data and feedback, it will likely be rolled into that effort. The description of those species is the best data available on their respective distributions. Its not great, but not too bad in my opinion. What is the challenge for splitting the taxa on iNaturalist because of this? We won't be able to assume species are one thing based on locality in most cases, but with additional characters we should be able to redo all the IDs. Is it just a matter of setting up the new maps of expected range?
OK I committed the split https://www.inaturalist.org/taxon_changes/80985
@cvanderson if you can help reID obs of former C. nasutum sensu lato which have been rolled back to Calumma by the split that would be extremely helpful
