It does look as though more work needs to be done on Lotus subbiflorus vs L. hispidus. I have seen the comment that L. hispidus is a "nomen nudum".
POWO now has it as valid, and indeed L. suaveolens as a synonym of it

Hmmmm. POWO cite no reason for treating this as a synonym. There are 120 observations and AFAIK most floras consider it valid.
