The name is valid, but recent publications by Pettengill & Neel suggest that it should be lumped with A. decemloba. Have to drag the latter out of synonymy with A. obtusifolia first, though. See https://bsapubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.3732/ajb.1000267
I disagree that it is invalid. The description (here: https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/page/12246604#page/359/mode/1up) is sufficient, and there are not many requirements for valid publication for names from that era. This looks like a valid, legitimate name.
