Should the name have been entered as Lasioglossum tegulare, after which the website would add Complex to it automatically?

Exactly.

The issue is that only the person who created the taxon can edit the name, otherwise we have to make a taxon swap and move the species.

Hi @valerietheblonde, would you be able to edit the name?

Posted by bdagley over 1 year ago

Hi @bdagley, the scientific name in the editing field is "Tegulare group", iNaturalist is adding 'Complex' ahead of it. You would like me to change "Tegulare group" to "Lasioglossum tegulare"?

Posted by thenatureofvalerie over 1 year ago

Yes, because it is the L. tegulare complex according to iNat naming conventions.

Yes, thanks.

Could someone also explain the best or most efficient way to change scientific names? I haven't made any name changes yet.

Edit Taxon --> Name --> Save Changes

That only works if you were the one who added the taxon though, otherwise you have to do a taxon swap.
