donaldasutherland zroskoph Hudson Bay American Toad (Subspecies Anaxyrus americanus copei)

Is "Anaxyrus americanus copei" even a validly published combination? In any case, this entity is at best a colour morph, as it is not confined to any geographic area (i.e. within the Hudson Bay Lowland A. americanus exhibits a complete range of colours.

Our reference (amphibian species of the world) doesn't cover ssp so the reference can't help. I'd suggest looping in IDers using this ssp eg. @zonotrick, @how2herp, @theontarionaturalist, and @cgbc to get their input

please comment if still an issue - resolving for now

A taxon merge of Anaxyrus americanus copei into Anaxyrus americanus americanus would solve this issue for good.
A. americanus copei is not recognized by any of the frameworks used by iNaturalist, having the taxon active is counterproductive.
A. americanus should have at most two subspecies, ssp. americanus and ssp. charlesmithi.

non of our references go to ssp so they're agnostic. Can you loop in people using ssp to make IDs like @stevethesnakeguy ?https://www.inaturalist.org/identifications?taxon_id=1157371

Wouldn't that keep the species page for A. americanus copei active and still list it as a subspecies on the page for A. americanus?

I was hoping the taxon could be made inactive and get a header like the one on this page: https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/65560-Hylarana-attigua

Hello again, I just wanted to know if you had new information on the possibility of making this taxon inactive?

I left comments on multiple observations, along with @ mentions for many identifiers, to let people know about this flag and get their opinions on it.
Hopefully we will get some comments.

I think it's valid but that is my subjective opinion without much reasoning besides "they look wildly different". So for iNaturalist I think it should probably merged until further official research comes out 🙂
