I think BugGuide comes down as Buprestis nutalli https://bugguide.net/node/view/160646
The alternate spelling gets used in relation to Buprestis consularis https://bugguide.net/node/view/56614
Seems a bit confusing! That comment in Bugguide suggests that consularis is usually treated as a synonym of nutalli. The "Catalog and Bibliography of the Buprestoidea of America North of Mexico" notes nutalli as an invalid name (and does not even mention nuttalli). ITIS however lists nutalli as valid and also does not mention nuttalli. It seems that there are two issues here: i) the taxon should perhaps be spelled nutalli and not nuttalli (in contrast to most other Latin names based on Thomas Nuttall, such as Nuttall's Woodpecker, Dryobates nuttallii); ii) whether consularis and nutalli are the same [and which name then has precedence] or different; that is beyond my expertise!
Check: Kirby, 1837 = nutalli
iNaturalist includes entries for both Buprestis nutallii and B. nuttalii; one is surely in error. E-Fauna BC also has entries for both names.
