Pyron and Beamer. 2022. "Allocation of Salamandra auriculata Holbrook, 1838, with a new species of swamp-dwelling dusky salamander (Plethodontidae: Desmognathus) from the Atlantic Coastal Plain"

https://doi.org/10.11646/zootaxa.5188.6.6

D. auriculatus in the FL and part of GA coastal plain. D. valtos in part of GA and SC coastal plain

I can help with the split on this however I have not yet done that part of taxonomic curation yet so I may ask for help @loarie . Going to read through the curation guide more.

Great - here are the steps:
1) Go to https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/new and create an inactive taxon for Desmognathus valtos
2) Go to https://www.inaturalist.org/taxon_changes/new and create a split with D. auriculatus as the input and one of the outputs and D. valtos as the other output
3) Create atlases for the.2 output taxa
4) comment here and I'll take a look before committing
Thanks!

Split and new atlases are now set up!

Thanks for setting this up, I collapsed some of the states on the atlases since state level is sufficient to sort out IDs for all but Georgia (and doingso will make the split easier) I also added range maps just for sanity.

if you click on 'analyze IDs' on the taxon split you can see how the atlases will be used to reassign IDs. Does this look good?

Total IDs of input taxon: 407
Number of IDs Destination Atlas
53 Desmognathus auriculatus Atlased
216 Desmognathus valtos Atlased
136 Desmognathus Outside of all atlases
2 Desmognathus Overlapping atlases

If so I'll commit

Looks good to me! Thanks @loarie . I'll have to see if I can add range maps the next time I attempt a split.
