Taxon swap made |
@yoshik do you agree?
The last updated checklist of European butterflies (https://zookeys.pensoft.net/article/28712/) does not list C. darwiniana as a species (subspecies are not considered).
But this article (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/mec.13479) suggests that C. darwiniana is a taxon of hybridogenetic origin between C. arcania and C. gardetta.
I agree that it should be considered a full species, but the problem is that sources are discordant.
However, this page in the iNat Forum (https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/taxonomic-resources-for-insects-wiki/11584) suggests https://www.nymphalidae.net/Nymphalidae/home.htm (where C. darwiniana is listed as a full species) as iNat source for Nymphalidae.
At this point it would be preferable to reverse the 2016 taxon change (https://www.inaturalist.org/taxon_changes/14174) that swapped C. darwiniana for C. gardetta darwiniana.
Could you please make the subspecies a species (source: https://lepiforum.org/wiki/page/Coenonympha_darwiniana)?
