After taxon update, some observations are still at Needs ID under inactive taxon.

I believe this is the same bug as: https://www.inaturalist.org/flags/604098. Currently I have 5 observations that are Needs ID and under the inactive taxon Phalacrocorax auritus, despite the IDs being updated to Nannopterum auritum.

Going through this link: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?verifiable=true&taxon_id=4265&preferred_place_id=1&locale=en, it looks like a lot more observations than mine are affected.

I agree this seems like and issue. Unfortunately I don't know how to fix it. It was previously flagged and closed, https://www.inaturalist.org/flags/608598.

I went to this page, https://www.inaturalist.org/taxon_changes?taxon_id=4265, and clicked the "Update your content" button in the upper right. It acted like it timed-out, but it actually updated all of my IDs.

I'm sorry I'm not too helpful; primarily here just to document.

@brennafarrell iNat was having issues with memory during the swap, and this is probably related. Adding an ID seems to fix it instantly. A large number of these seem to be people opted out of swaps and/or community taxon.

@psweet @aguilita @williamwisephoto @brdnrdr would you mind running through these observations and force-updating them with IDs? Any help is appreciated.

Needs ID observations identified as Phalacrocorax auritus (200-300): https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/identify?per_page=100&ident_taxon_id=4265

Observations stuck at P. auritus (800-900): https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/identify?per_page=100&taxon_id=4265

Thanks! I was hoping that there would be a more automated fix (like in the flag I linked above) than just adding new IDs.

@brennafarrell if I did the same with N. auritus I might cause another memory crash or get my curatorship removed, unfortunately. I think it would be better to play it safe here.

That's understandable, thanks!

@rynxs -- I started working on that first batch. Anything where the user opted out of community ID isn't going to change, apparently.

@ben_ginter would you mind updating your IDs, please?

looks like all that's left at this point are observations from people who opted out of both taxon changes and community ID (and didn't respond to added IDs/comments/tags)—all other verifiable observations are taken care of (and i just went through and voted+unvoted on something in the DQA to force-update all remaining casual observations affected by the display issue)—so i'll go ahead and close this flag.
