I could replicate this bug. Also tested with another newly created taxon, which did appear as expected.
Made the taxon Inactive then Active again but this did not have any immediate change.
Typing/pasting in just octopunctatum and the taxon will show in the list as an option
Looking at the taxon History, the name as originally entered was just octopunctatum. It may take some time for the cached/indexed search name to update.

Your comment in the taxon history on the name change seems to indicate you've changed/updated a name on another taxon you've added. Do you recall what it was? It may be useful to see if the same issue exists there or is this is an isolated case.
I initally entered just "octopunctatum", as you correctly found. I then changed it to "Neorrhina octopunctatum".
@lwnrngr would you be able to have another look? It still has not appeared in the dropdown.

It's still not appearing in the dropdown as expected. This may be a system bug and not something curators can fix. May I suggest you post a bug report on the forum for staff to look at.
