Split done |
That doesn't sound disastrous, because most european discus observations should be IDd to the species, and it should make for a painless split. You can see the maps for yourself: https://www.inaturalist.org/photos/166940585 https://www.inaturalist.org/photos/164982079 https://www.inaturalist.org/photos/165612503
OK thanks. Here's the drafts:

Please don't commit the split until the genera are atlased (which should be easier after the swaps). I'll do this in a few days if no one has any objections. Thanks for the maps. That will make things easier, and possibly some genus IDs can stay as is.
OK split went wonky. Now all genus IDs got bumped to family…

D. perspectivus and D. rotundatus are phylogenetically only distantly related to the rest of the genus (which is closer to Anguispira). They have been moved to the genus Gonyodiscus. We would have to swap those species and likely split Discus, bumping most (all?) genus IDs to family. How does that sound? Does anyone know how the distributions of Discus s.s. and Gonyodiscus overlap in Europe?

MB has updated, but they incorrectly have Gonyodiscus in Gonyodiscidae.
