Baird's Ratsnake

Pantherophis bairdi

Summary 2

Baird's Ratsnake is a beautiful snake that just reaches western Bexar County. It occurs in the steep rocky hillsides and canyons in the Hill Country and makes it just to the edge of its range in the Government Canyon area.
This species occasionally hybridizes with the Western Ratsnake (Pantherophis obsoletus) however the criterion used to distinguish a hybrid from a "pure" Baird's Ratsnake are not well known.
