Western Banjo Frog

Limnodynastes dorsalis

Summary 2

Limnodynastes dorsalis is a frog species from the family Myobatrachidae. The informal names for this species are western banjo frog, pobblebonk. It is one of the many endemic amphibians of southwest Western Australia and is the only representative of the genus in the southwest. They produce a foam nest in which the eggs are placed as they are fertilised in winter and spring. The nest is constructed on vegetation at the surface of static or slow flowing water from which the tadpoles are able to drop into the water below as they hatch.
