Metacrinia nichollsi is a species of Australian frog, commonly named as the Forest (or Nicholls') Toadlet. It is endemic to Southwest Australia, occurring between Dunsborough and Albany restricted to the karri belt except for an isolated population in the Stirling Range. Although the Porongurup is considered 'in range' this frog species has so far not been observed here.
A small frog less than 3cm with noticeably small back legs. The belly is distinctive being black with blue and white patches or mottling, and bright yellow or orange near and under the legs and arms.
Breeds opportunistically after late summer rain laying eggs under cover such as beneath a log. A direct developer with the 2 month larval period occurring entirely within the egg capsule.
