Leaf/Branch Arrangement: Opposite
Flower: Yellow – red tubular shaped
Leaves: 2-5 inches long, 1-2¾ inches wide, egg-shaped, rounded or tapered base, long tapered and pointed tip, edges finely toothed and finely hairy
Bark: brown, nondescript
Fruit/Seed: 2-valved capsule 1/3-½ inch long, green - brown
Height: 1-3 feet
Flowering: June - July
Habitat: woods, woodland edges, clearings, thickets, bluffs, along railroad
