• Shape: Multi-stemmed shrub
• Leaf/Branch Arrangement: Opposite
• Flower: Yellow – red tubular shaped
• Leaves: 2-5 inches long, 1-2¾ inches wide, egg-shaped, rounded or tapered base, long tapered and pointed tip, edges finely toothed and finely hairy
• Bark: brown, nondescript
• Fruit/Seed: 2-valved capsule 1/3-½ inch long, green - brown
• Height: 1-3 feet
• Flowering: June - July
• Habitat: woods, woodland edges, clearings, thickets, bluffs, along railroad
