• Shape: Tree
• Flower: cone, male; cylindrical, 1/3-2/3 inch long, dense clusters at base of new growth, female; egg-shaped, 3/8 inch long, on upper portion of new growth
• Leaves: evergreen, rounded needles, in bundles of 2, ¾-2 inches long, often twisted
• Bark: brown/gray-gray/black vertical ridges, often flaky
• Fruit/Seed: hard cone, ½-2 inches long, tip curled towards branch, sealed closed by resin
• Height: 30-100 feet
• Flowering: May - June
• Habitat: upland forest, savanna, barrens
