European Pond Turtle

Identification 3
The carapace (upper part of shell) is more or less round in comparison to the other present turtle species. The body exhibits yellow spots and a stubbed nose. There are only two species of turtles present on Czech nature so this Identification guide should suffice.
Ecology & Behaviour 3
Smaller than the slider this turtle was once uncomon in Czech republic. Now the two only remaining populations in Moravia are somewhat disputed in regards to their origin. One population was reintroduced after an exctinction and the other is diminishing, making the species exceedingly rare find. Similarly to Trachemys scripta the European pond turtle is carnivorous and a sit-and-wait predator. It can be spoted when basking on sun.
Identifikace (CZ) 3
Krunýř je oblý oproti želvě nádherné. Hlava černá - zelená s přítomnými žlutavými skvrnami. Na nohách lze také pozorovat žluté skvrny. U nás se vyskytuje pzatím pouze na Moravě a to velmi vzácně.
