Description ²

• Shape: Small tree to multi-stemmed shrub
• Leaf/Branch Arrangement: Alternate
• Flower: White simple shaped, 5 petals
• Leaves: pointed oval, wedge shaped base, 1 ¼-3 inches long, 2/3-1 ¼ inches wide, hairless, finely toothed
• Bark: grey, smooth-slightly rough
• Fruit/Seed: oval-pear shaped berry, up to ½ inch long, purple/black
• Height: 5-6 feet
• Flowering: May - June
• Habitat: forest edges, conifer swamps, bogs, thickets, cliffs, rock outcrops, rocky shores
