Shape: Small tree to multi-stemmed shrub
Leaf/Branch Arrangement: Alternate
Flower: White simple shaped, 5 petals
Leaves: egg-shaped, pointed tip, rounded-heart shaped base, finely toothed, 1 ½-2 ½ inches long, 1-1 ½ inches wide, young leaf stalks are hairy
Bark: grey, smooth, lighter vertical lines that look similar to stretch marks
Fruit/Seed: round berry, ¼-2/3 inch diameter, red/purple
Height: 20-30 feet
Flowering: April - June
Habitat: forest understory, woodland edges, shrubby fields and meadows, windbreaks, roadsides
