Caryomyia recurvata

Gagne Description 2

Occasional, found on Eucarya hickories; usually in groups, on lower leaf surface on vein; 2.5-4.0 mm in length, recumbent, truncate near base, abruptly narrowed and recurved beyond basal third; white, green, to tan, hairless, glaucous; base of gall with central, conical pedicel surrounded by shallow, circular indentation; wall firm, brittle, uniformly thin except for slightly thicker blunt end, larval chamber glabrous, with longitudinal ridges following gall axis from leaf vein connection to recurved apex. This gall is most similar to that of C. eumaris but is hairless and has a smooth glaucous surface and has a more truncate base. The gall of C. eumaris has a rough and sparsely hairy surface.
