INTRODUCTION
- Non Venomous
- Also called : Nagarjunasagar Racer.
- Very fast moving and slender snakes.
IDENTIFICATION
- Slender body with smooth scales and yellowish belly with dark patches on the edge.
- Dark grayish dorsal color and become faint towards posterior.
- Creamy, round edged bands with black margins start behind neck, disappear towards tail.
- Head with arrowhead pattern & somewhat broken V-pattern joining eyes. Large round protruding pupils.
- Confused with Graceful racer and Russell's Kukri. Grow to 2-3 feet on average.
- No pattern towards posterior unlike Graceful racer that has black patches.
DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT
- Southern India - Deccan Plateau of Andhra, Karnataka, Telangana & Tamil Nadu.
- Inhabit dry rocky terrain of the deccan plateau in moderate elevations.
- Hide under and between boulders and dense bushes.
DIET AND BEHAVIOR
- Feed on geckos and small rodents..
- Diurnal activity and is mainly terrestrial.
- Alert and quick to flee. Restless, but non-offensive when handled.
