Bunch Grass Locust

Pseudopomala brachyptera

Identification 5

Elongate body and legs, but without the long wings and markings of Mermiria species. Longer winged individuals do occur that are similar to Mermiria picta but never have red tibiae.

Not yet reported in iNaturalist in Iowa, but reported in BugGuide. Insects of Iowa has records from 4 counties. Knutson (1937) reported this species from 9 counties around the state.

Habitat 5

Thought to be associated with native bunch grasses, in wet to dry areas.
