The brown trout is a big 4 trout species here in Colorado. It’s is highly sought after by anglers. And to many’s surprise it’s native to Europe but it’s introduced to Colorado water maybe has been the most influential of all the trouts. And is one of the most common trout if not the most common trout in our larger low elevation rivers and lakes. Although they can live at higher elevations they seem to be a lot more Abundant at lower elevations. They are one of the largest growing trout species here in Colorado and can get up to lengths of 30+ Inches in the right conditions but a 20 inch fish is considered a good one. Colorado grows some large brown trout and is one of the reasons why our rivers attract anglers from all around. they frequently hit lengths of 17-20+ inches in our gold medal waters. They are also the most abundant trout in our gold medal waters. People come from all around to fish for some of Colorados world class brown trout fishing as they usually are the feature fish in a lot of fly fishing advertisements for Colorado. Almost all populations in Colorado and have become self sustaining and are wild as they spawn in the fall.
