Splake

Salvelinus namaycush × fontinalis

Splake 2

The splake is one of the more uncommon species of char here in Colorado. A hybrid between a brook trout and a lake trout. They are stocked in a few higher mountain reservoirs as well as some alpine lakes. They need cold water like a lake trout and brook trout. They tend to live at deeper depths but depending the water temperature they can come up in the water column and Can be easier for shore anglers to encounter them especially in the alpine lakes. They do not grow as big as the lake trout but are not as small as the brook trout. They can get over 20+ inches in the right conditions here in Colorado.
