Schmidt 1906 compares clavaticeps to turrita and notes that in clavaticeps the lateral carinae on the cephalic process are the same as the ground color, meaning that the head process shows only 4 colored stripes (2 on each side), while in turrita the lateral carinae are also colored so that species shows 6 colored stripes (3 on each side)

Capitis processu conico, apice anguste petiolato-clavato: sanguineus, minute nigro-conspersus, capitis apice, metanoto, abdominis dorso, tegminum margine apicali alisque nigro-fuscis, harum macula costali magna trigona albido- diaphana. Dem Pyr. clavaticeps Karsch (Berl. Entom. Zeitschr. XXXV. S. 62, Taf. II, fig. 4) unmittelbar verwandt, aber durch den spitz kegelförmigen, in eine dünn gestielte, schmale Keule endigenden Kopffortsatz, schmälere und am Ende schräg abgestutzte Deckflügel, bis zur Spitze tief schwarz-braune und mit einem scharf dreieckig abgeschnittenen hyalinen Aussenrandsfleck versehene Hinterflügel abweichend.

• Licht blutroth, mit dichter schwarzer Punktirung auf Kopf, Pro- und Mesonotum, Brust, Bauch, Beinen und Deckflügeln. Kopf 4 mal so lang als das Pronotum, von den Augen ab allmählich und kegelförmig verjüngt, auf mehr als seiner Länge in gleicher Ebene mit dem Thorax verlaufend, von da ab nach oben aufbiegend, die keulenartige Anschwellung der Spitze schmal und dünn gestielt; zwei vom Innenrand der Augen ausgehende stampfe und convergirende Längs- schwielen seiner Ober- und Unterseite vom Ende des vorderen Drittheils ab sich zu scharfen Kielen erhebend, welche die tiefe Rinne des Keulenstieles einfassen, auf der Keule selbst aber verschwinden. Letztere tief und glänzend schwarz, die Schwielen und Kiele intensiv mennigroth und frei von der sonst vorhandenen schwarzen Tüpfelung. Clypeus und Ober- lippe dicht schwarz punktirt, dus kurze Rostrum nur die Basis der Mittelschenkel erreichend, mit schwärzlichem Ende seiner beiden Glieder. Pro- und Mesonotum fein ciselirt, ersteres mit seichter Mittelfurche, beide gleich der Brust von Kopffärbung. Die licht blutrothe Grundfarbe der Beine unter der dichten schwarzen Fleckung und Punktirung fast ver- schwindend, die Hinterschienen mehr rostfarben, mit fünf scharfen Aussendornen, von denen der oberste die Basis solbst einnimmt. Deckflügel merklich gestreckter als bei Pyr. clavaticeps, ihr Costalrand bis zur Einmündung der Subcosta leicht bogig gerundet, jenseits derselben gegen den schmal abgerundeten Endrand hin schräg abgestutzt; bis über die Mitte der Länge intensiver blutroth als Kopf und Thorax, im Bereich ihres letzten Drittheiles durch die hier viel ge- drängtere schwarze Punktirung mehr rothbraun erscheinend, der Endsaum breit rauchschwarz. Hinterflügel tief schwarz- braun, ein grosser, scharf dreieckiger Costalfleck von ihrer Breite und von der Basis bis zur Mitte der Länge reichend trübe milchweiss durchscheinend; zwischen dem rauchbraunen Analrand und der Analader so wie beiderseits von der inne- ren Gabelader gleichfalls ein weisslicher Längswisch. Hinter- leibsrücken gleich dem Metanotum tief und glänzend schwarz, mit schmalem lichtgelbem Endsaum der Segmente; Bauch- seite fleischroth mit dichter schwarzer Tüpfelung und ge- schwärzter Mitte.
