Schmidt 1906 compares clavaticeps to turrita and notes that in clavaticeps the lateral carinae on the cephalic process are the same as the ground color, meaning that the head process shows only 4 colored stripes (2 on each side), while in turrita the lateral carinae are also colored so that species shows 6 colored stripes (3 on each side)

Mehrere Exemplare dieser durch den am Ende keulenförmig verdickten Fortsatz des Kopfes und die dunkeln mit hellen Stellen versehenen Hinterflügel ausgezeichneten kleinen Pyropa-Art befinden sich, von Herrn Oberstabsarzt Dr. Falkenstein in Chinchoxo (Loango) gesammelt, im Königlichen Museum für Naturkunde zu Berlin. Ein einzelnes Exemplar hat Herr J. M. Hildebrandt in Sansibar erbeutet.

Several specimens of this small Pyropa species, characterized by the thickened club-shaped head extension at the end and the dark hind wings with light spots, are found by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Falkenstein collected in Chinchoxo (Loango), in the Royal Museum of Natural History in Berlin. Mr. J. M. Hildebrandt captured a single copy in Zanzibar
