Fronte rugosa, distincte callosa: rufo-ferruginea, thorace unicolori, abdomine fusco, pedibus nigris, posticis supra fulvis: tegminum dimidio basali ciridi- olivaceo, horum area costali nec non alarum parte basali majore laete miniaceis, hac maculis 8 ad 10 nigris signata. Long. corp. 17, exp. tegm. 56 mill. Patria: Nguëlo (Afric. orient.).
Von gleicher Form und Grüsse wie An. sumptuosa. Scheitel fein ciselirt, jederseits mit flachem Wulst in der Vertiefung, Stirn dicht und fein schräg gerunzelt, mit deutlichem Mittel- kiel und bogenförmiger Schwiele nahe dem Oberrand. Cly- peus feiner ciselirt, mit oberhalb schwachem Mittelkiel. Rostrum bis zum Genitalsegment reichend, pechschwarz. Thorax gieich dem Kopf intensiv rost-, fast mennigroth, matt. Pronotum eben, dicht und fein querrunzelig, mit niedrigem, aber scharfem und durchgehendem Mittelkiel. Scheibe des Mesonotum mit feinen Querstrichen ciselirt, mit schwachem, beiderseits abgekürztem Mittelkiel und der gewöhnlichen Sförmig geschwungenen Bogenleiste jederseits. Vorder- und Mittelbeine in ihrer ganzen Ausdehnung, die Hinterbeine nur unterhalb schwarz, an letzteren die ganzen Schenkel und die Basis der Schienen oberhalb braungelb. Deckflügel dreifarbig: der Costalraum bis zur Mitte ihrer Länge zinnoberroth, das übrige Corium und der Clavus intensiv und licht olivengrün die ganze Spitzenhälfte satt braun. Hinterflügel von der Basis aus bis fast auf der Länge intensiv zinnoberroth mit acht bis zehn, auf drei Querreihen vertheilten schwarzen Punktflecken; der Innenrand im Bereich der rothen Partie schmal wässerig braun, die terminalen zwei Fünfttheile ebenso intensiv wie auf den Deckflügeln. Hinterleib oberhalb ge- bräunt.

Forehead wrinkled, distinctly callous: rufous-rusty, thorax unicolor, abdomen brown, feet black, hind legs above yellow: basal half of the coverts light olive-olive, the costal area of these and also the basal part of the wings are brightly small, marked with 8 to 10 black spots. Of the same form and greetings as An. sumptuosa. Crown finely chiseled, on each side with a flat bulge in the depression, forehead densely and finely obliquely wrinkled, with a clear central keel and a scalloped callus near the upper edge. Clypeus more finely chiseled, with a weak central keel above. Rostrum extending to genital segment, pitch black. Thorax, like the head, intensely rusty, almost mennigred, dull. Pronotum flat, densely and finely transversely wrinkled, with a low but sharp and continuous central keel. Disc of the mesonotum chiseled with fine transverse lines, with a weak central keel abbreviated on both sides and the usual S-shaped arched ledge on each side. Front and middle legs over their entire extent, the hind legs only black below, on the latter the entire thighs and the base of the tibia above brown-yellow. Elytra tricolor: the costal space vermillion up to the middle of their length, the rest of the corium and the clavus intense and light olive green the whole tip half deep brown. Hind wings from the base to almost the length intense vermillion red with eight to ten black dots distributed in three transverse rows; the inner edge in the area of the red part narrowly watery brown, the terminal two fifth parts as intense as on the elytra. Abdomen browned above.
Identification note 3
Schmidt's key (1905) includes militaris under the couplet which points to species with black spots on the thorax, despite having no such spots. Strand 1910 clarifies this error and redescribes the species.
