Deze Cicade behoord onder de zoge- naamde Lantaarndragers; zy heeft den Kop byna zo lang als het Borstftuk, en in gedaante als een Conus die aan beide zyden een wynig plat en bruin- geel van kleur is met twee haaks wyze bruine vlakken op't midden: het Borst- ftuk is bruin met twee bruingeele vlak- jes en randen, de twee eerste ringen van het Agterlyf zyn donkerbruin, de overigen bleekrood; het uitſteekend puntje aan 't einde van 't zelve bevat de legangel waarmede dezelve de Eiëren in de planten booren, zynde deze hier afgebeelde naar een Wyfje. De Dek- fchilden zyn bruingeel en met donker- bruine ftippen bezet, de Vleugelen voor 't grootste gedeelte bleekroozen rood, doch aan de tippen paarschagtig bruin en wynig doorfchynend. Op de onder-zyde is het Lyf bleekrood met bruin gevlakt, de Pooten bruingeel en aan de Beenen der agterften met doornen voor- zien; de Dekfchilden en Vleugelen zyn wynig onderfchyden in kleuren met de bovenzyde derzelven. Zy is aan de Kaap de Goede Hoop gevonden, en be- rust in het Kabinet van den Heere L. F. HOLTHUISEN.

This Cicada belongs to the so-called Lantern Bearers; it has the head almost as long as the breast, and in the shape of a cone, which on both sides is a wynig flat and brown-yellow in color with two perpendicular brown areas in the middle: the breast is brown with two brownish yellow surfaces and edges, the first two rings of the Agterlyf are dark brown, the others pale red; the prominent dot at the end of it contains the legangel with which the Eggs bore into the plants, these being depicted here after a Wyfje. The elytra are brownish yellow and covered with dark brown tips, the wings for the most part a pale pinkish red, but at the tips purplish brown and wynigly penetrating. On the bottom on the other side the Lyf is pale red with brown flattened, the Legs brownish yellow, and on the Legs of the posteriors furnished with thorns; the elytra and wings are subordinates in colors with the upper side of the same. She was found at the Cape of Good Hope, and rests in the Cabinet of the Lord L. F. HOLTHUISEN.
