Hygrophorus chrysodon is a common and colorful species in the family Hygrophoraceae. It is a gorgeous and vibrant species that while waxy and slimy when young soon develops its characteristic scales/granules all over the cap and stipe - the name "chrysodon" is Greek for "golden tooth" and refers to these scales. It tends to have a faded yellow/white coloration throughout its lifetime, becoming more yellow with age.
