Atlantic salmon(Salmo salar) are a popular sport fish. Native to Lake Ontario and northeastern North America, they have been introduced into upper Great Lakes. Live in the big lakes, some larger inland lakes and larger rivers. Reproduce in the fall after making spectacular migrations up rivers.

How to recognize: Small fleshy fin on the back in front of the tail. Silvery body with black spots. Several large black spots on gill cover. Few to no black spots on tail. Mouth does not usually extend past rear of eye. Up to 2½ feet /0.8 meters long.
