Pirate perch(Aphredoderus sayanus) live in backwaters of rivers with no current, ponds, permanently flooded wetlands, etc. Usually hide in root masses or dense stands of submerged aquatic vegetation. Very secretive, rarely leaving the safety of their cover.

How to recognize: Anus is beneath the throat. Relatively tall, stocky body. Vertical dark bar at the base of the tail. Up to 4 inches /10 centimeters long.
