Symphyotrichum pilosum, commonly called the hairy white oldfield aster or frost aster, is an herbaceous plant in the aster family.

Recognition 5

•White flowers with 15-30 rays, 1.3 to 2 cm across.
•Hairy stem
•Leaves 2-10 cm, small at top, longer and wider at bottom.
•Bunches of small leaves often grow above base of larger leaves.

Similar species 5

There are several similar species of white asters. Symphyotrichum ericoides has smaller leaves and broader bracts on the side of the flower head. Symphyotrichum lanceolatum has narrower leaves and smooth stems.
