Western Sycamore

Platanus racemosa

Western Sycamore (Platanus racemosa) 2

The sycamore tree grows 40 to 80 feet high and the trunk grows from 18 to 30 inches in diameter. The leaves are thick, 4 to 7 inches long and just as wide. The leaves are very fuzzy. The seed balls are about 1 inch in diameter. The bark has a patchwork look to it and thin sheets of bark are shed annually as the tree grows. The sycamore is found throughout the interior valleys and in the coastal regions of California.
