Northern California Black Walnut

Juglans hindsii

Northern California Black Walnut (Juglans hindsii) 2

The tree grows 30 to 60 feet. The leaves are compound and are 9 to 12 inches long with 9 to 17 leaflets. The male pollen bearing flowers are long and pendent, while the female flowers are small bud like and develop into the green covered nut. Squirrels and other animals spread the nuts around allowing the trees grow elsewhere. The California Black Walnut is often used as rootstock for the English Walnut.
