Very common species of dry forests and woodlands throughout the state. Look for the large spikelets, conspicuously bearded nodes (usually retrorse), and lack of basal leaves. It is usually the largest woodland Dichanthelium.
Spikelets: 3.8-5.2 mm long, 1.7-2.2 mm wide, narrowly ellipsoid, pubescent or puberulent.
