Nodding flowers with strongly backward-pointing petals in flat-topped umbels.
Habitat: open woods, meadows, and prairies
Flower: 1" long; petals 5, rose, lilac, or white; stamens 5, yellow, protruding.
Leaves: To 6" long, basal, dark green, lanceolate, with reddish bases.
Fruit: Many-seeded capsule opening lengthwise.
